Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) in the Mongolian Saiga Antelope
In 2017, the Mongolian saiga, a critically endangered antelope sub-species only found in Mongolia, suffered the greatest loss to PPRV infection ever recorded in wild ungulates.

WCS Mongolia supportied the Mongolian government in responding to this outbreak, and better include wildlife in the management and control of PPR.

My research, as part of the Steppe Health SNAPP project, focused on synthesizing epidemiological and ecological data to better understand the spillover from livestock to wild ungulates and subsequent outbreak in wildlife, the risk of future spillover across the landscape, and the long term consequences for the Saiga.
The working group also made important policy contributions by encouraging the consideration of wildlife-livestock interfaces in PPR control and elimination plans.
